about-chris-silkwoodChris Silkwood is a dedicated and enthusiastic mosaic artist. She learned the art of mosaic approximately fourteen years ago while living in Australia. Chris had the opportunity to study with the artists of ArtBusters, a renowned mosaic studio in Brisbane, Australia. After returning to the United States, she also took a summer course at the famed Mosaic Art School in Ravenna, Italy.

Chris has blended her training and creative instincts to develop a style that is uniquely her own. Her work is a study in classic mosaic with very contemporary styling. Her intention has always been to honor the ancient technique but with modern design application. She believes there are no boundaries with mosaic and the opportunity to work with such magnificent color in the glass she uses is incredibly fulfilling. Her art adorns private homes and businesses throughout the U.S. and overseas.

She believes that mosaic art will be an appreciated and enjoyed art form forever. It has sustained itself for centuries in some of the most magnificent cathedrals throughout the world. The art of mosaic has an incredible history but will continue to be enjoyed in homes and gardens for centuries to come. Her collectors frequently say, “Chris’s work is truly a painting done in mosaic. Her designs are both abstract and figurative.”

Her work has been featured in the Houston Chronicle, Houston House & Home, Gloss, Origin and OurBlok magazines. She has shown at the Fairmont Gallery in Dallas, Ariodante in New Orleans and Vaughn Christopher in Houston. She has also been featured in a major exhibit at the Nave Museum. Her unique art style was discovered by Hollywood and featured in the film “Puncture”, starring Chris Evans of Captain America fame. Her work was also seen in a popular television series, The Lying Game on the ABC Family network. In addition to her personal work, Chris has co-curated with Gus Kopriva of Redbud Gallery, three major public art exhibits along the esplanade of Heights Boulevard.
